Home
of the 1997/8 Glamorganshire County Champions, Morriston is a private
Members Club, with a warm welcome and a lot to offer to both male
and lady golfers of all abilities.
Established in 1909 and located on the present site since 1916,
the 18 hole course has a pleasant parkland layout in a tranquil
rural area.
The
Club is very proud of its connections with a variety of charitable
organisations. In particular it has hosted a major, annual Golf Tournament
in conjunction with and support of the Morriston Hospital League
of Friends, which to date has raised almost £1.5m.
At just 5,708 yards the course could
easily be dismissed as being too short, but with small, fast greens
and several, tight driving holes the course offers a challenge to
golfers of all handicaps. The par three 15th is one of the most
challenging short holes in Wales and the 17th, a par four is where
many a good competition card has been spoilt.
Having
won the Welsh Team Championship in 1993 and again reaching the quarter
finals in 1997, the Club is well respected in Welsh golfing circles
and within the locality.
Morriston Golf Club is well represented
at all levels. Its eight teams regularly finish well in both the
Glamorgan and the local inter-club leagues. Notably, the Juniors
won the Glamorganshire Junior County Championship for the first
time in 1997/8, thus enabling the Club to be Champions at both First
Team and Junior levels for the first time in the Club's history
- achieved only once previously in the County.
