Appointment of Club Vice – Captain

Morriston Golf Club would like to confirm the appointment of John Hopkins as Vice-Captain for 2020/21.

John is a long standing and valued member of the club and he will work alongside new club captain Deryl Rees supporting him in the club’s centenary year.

On behalf of the board, management, committee and all our members we would like to wish John all the best in his role and, as with the captain, we offer him our unconditional support.

Change of Captain 1st April 2020

Despite the current situation where the golf club is currently closed, the 1st April traditionally sees the changeover of captain and this year should be no different.

Firstly, on behalf of the board, committees and members of Morriston Golf Club we would like to say a huge thank you to Robert Malt for his twelve months as captain of the golf club. Robert has had a very successful twelve months at the club and has been not just a fantastic captain but also a fantastic ambassador for the golf club and was also often seen out on the course helping the teams here to maintain the highest level of conditions available to all golfers.

We would also like to extend our thanks to Robert’s wife Angela and his family for their support of his twelve months as captain during which of course his son Dominic was crowned Club Champion for the very first time.

Of course with Robert’s exit we also welcome in our new captain and our former professional Deryl Rees who we are delighted agreed to be our centenary captain.

It is fair to say that Deryl is a legend not just around our golf club but throughout South Wales and we know that many current and past members have learned from his words of wisdom from his time as professional at the club.

Deryl is well known for his after dinner speaking with a vast array of stories both fact and fictional which will serve him well during 2020 which will be a very busy period.

On behalf of all our members we would like to take this opportunity to wish Deryl a hugely successful year ahead and offer him our unconditional support during this time.
