Prior to golf being played at Morriston there was a 9-hole course om Mynydd Gelliwastad Mountain, however not long after the 1914-18 war broke out it was disbanded owing to many a young man from the area being called to serve.
Following this period in 1920 a new Club was formed, and the old Clubhouse from the Mountain was moved to the Land acquired just a short distance from Morriston Cross.
Morriston Golf Club was formed and with a Joining Fee of £1-1s and an Annual subscription of £2-1s it soon attracted 100 Members.
Two of the Annual Competitions played for at Morriston are the 2 Competitions played on the Mountain course nearly 100 years ago, The Gelliwastad Bowl & Gelliwastad Cup.
